Nalanda city is headquarter of Nalanda district which is one of the fast developing region amongst 38 other districts in the state of Bihar. Formerly a part of the Patna division, it gained separate entity in 1972. Known worldwide for the ruins of once monastic cum learning center Nalanda University Complex, the city has an elaborate administrative structure. The district of Nalanda has been divided into three revenue sub-divisions and 20 Blocks consisting of 1084 Revenue villages for the purpose of administrative conveniences. These include:
